Let us know what plugins you'd like for PostageApp! Visit our documentation for info on Ruby on Rails and PHP.

If you have worked out something for another environment that you'd like to contribute to the community, let us know at [email blocked] and we will add it to the documentation.

Building on top of ActionMailer is a good fast start, but the view functionality of ActionMailer is redundant with your message templates, and even a lot of Rails apps have dropped it in favor of simpler solutions these days. (See Pony for an example of what I mean by "simple.")

I think a small gem with a method-based interface that relies on a PostageApp template would get a lot of use. If would also be pretty simple, so if you're not interested, I may write one soon from your API docs. (I'll let you know if I do, of course.)

    Hey Stephen,

You can skip ActionMailer when using the plugin. It all boils down to calling Postage.call(:send_message, options). And the options hash is what you send with the API call.

    Take a look here: http://github.com/theworkinggroup/pos...

We are planning to cleanup documentation section shortly.

Sounds like a step in the right direction. My only objections to your suggestion (apart from the documentation issue, which you addressed) are:

    1. An end-user method to call another method is very abstract and un-Rubyish. Why can't we just call Postage.send_message and bypass the plumbing?

    2. It's still just a Rails plugin. If you intend for it to be useful outside of Rails, it needs to be released as a gem.

@Skram or message me if you have any suggestions or requests. This seems to fulfill the basic functionality my app needs so far.

Good news. New postageapp ruby gem doesn't require ActionMailer. It doesn't even require Rails.
